We are having a baby in April, and we realized we needed a more reliable car. We did a lot of research and decided to buy a 2008-09 Outback. Our friends who had them spoke highly of theirs, so we looked at dealerships all over the Bay Area. They usually had a few, but most often ones w/high miles or not exactly what we wanted (color, 4 cylinder, manual, etc.). We looked for 2 months! We found Family Motors online, and we decided to make the trip. Their cars were in great condition, had low miles, and their selection is huge. We found the car we wanted on that day (2007 w/21,000 miles, black, V6)! Paul and the staff were great. The no haggle price was a pleasant experience. I wanted to relate to everyone what a nice experience it was to purchase my car at Family Motors. Cars are my hobby and passion and I have been buying and selling them for over fifty years. I must say that in most cases a trip to a dealer is like having a root canal without the anesthetic. Imagine my surprise when I purchased my 2006 Subaru B9 Tribeca at Family Motors. The car was reasonably priced, presented in wonderful condition, and was as represented in the sales brochure.

The staff at Family Motors (Bob, Ginger and Paul) was friendly, professional, exerted no pressure and knew the product they were selling.

I am very pleased with my car and the entire buying experience. I would highly recommend that anyone interested in a Subaru or a Saab look to Family Motors for their needs first. I would give the whole experience a five star rating. Actually, I would even add one more star as I could not get a ride from my home on the Peninsula on the day I was to pick up the car. I would like to tell everyone about my wonderful experience purchasing my new car at Family Motors.  When my husband and I first went to Family Motors we had never looked at Subaru before.  The owner answered all our questions thereby making us feel that he really knew his product.  We drove the vehicles we were interested in and then decided we needed some time to think about what model we wanted.  The dealership did not call us at home and hassle us saying we really needed to buy it now because the car might not be there when we decided it was what we wanted.  A week later we returned and purchased a Subaru Forester 2.5 XT Ltd.  The paperwork was done easily and each piece was explained to make sure we fully understood what we were signing.  Overall, our experience was wonderful, and I will certainly be recommending Family Motors in Sonoma to all my friends.  Grace and Ron S.

I bought a used 98 Subaru Legacy Outback Wagon from you several years ago, so here's an update. 60K miles later, the car continues to run perfectly. I've had no problems outside of ordinary maintenance and its a great car. I've spent lots of time in the cold and snow with it and it performs flawlessly. Family Motors is such a contrast to buying a car from a "regular" dealer.  My daughter had her heart set on a Subaru, and we had looked at several places.  One dealer had taken a Subaru in on trade.  It was just what my daughter wanted!  We were at the dealership for close to two hours and they still couldn't tell me how much the car would cost!  They wanted to play games, and I finally left, pointing out that it was 2007 and I didn't have time.  I told them I simply wanted to write a check and buy a car.  The next day I found Family Motors.  In about 45 minutes we had driven the car, written a check, and bought a car.  And guess what - it was exactly the color and model we both wanted.  Driving home she signed and said, "I never thought I would find my dream car."  Diane W.

I bought a used 2004 Forester from Bob in 2007. Unfortunately, the car was hit in the rear bumper shortly thereafter. I took the car for repairs to the same shop Bob takes his cars only to learn that the car had had $6K in damage to the rear-end before I bought it. Bob had mentioned that it had been in a fender-bender, but not that the $15K car had a repair that was nearly half of what it was worth. Knowing this would have made me re-think the purchase, and my bad for not being more diligent about pursuing this and the paperwork involved. Later, the car was hit in the front bumper by a backing truck. The air bag did not deploy, and I was seriously injured because of this malfunction. The car ended up totaled. I later discovered that Family Motors did not check the air bags, even though this is an important safety feature. I feel Bob was less than honest with me in my car purchase, and would not buy another vehicle from him. Peggy M.

Dealer Response:  Thank you for your feedback. At the time of purchase, it was disclosed that the vehicle had been bumped from the rear by another person during a test drive and that the "rear hatch, bumper and tail lights were replaced and minor rear structural damage repaired". This information is on the copy of the inspection that you received when you purchased your Forester.  I have checked my understanding of air bags again with two mechanics and they have confirmed that the only check for air bags is done by the vehicle's computer each time the vehicle is started. In other words, there is no check that we can do outside of making sure that the air bags are in place and that the air bag light is not staying on after the vehicle is running, both of which we always do. If the air bag light goes off upon the vehicle starting, the air bag system is working properly. Not all front impacts will cause the air bags to deploy as the computer takes many factors into consideration and those parameters are set by the manufacturer. Bob Iverson
